Get a PS2 For Bush Campaign

There's a campaign to buy Bush a Playstation 2:

so he'll be able to play war at home instead of in Iraq.

It seems that they've managed to raise $370 to buy Bush a PS2, one copy each of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs and Conflict: Desert Storm, a memory card and an extra controller for Mr. Cheney's use!

Google Bombs

Here's an interesting article about Google Bombs.

How is a Google Bomb created: when many people post links using the same phrase to the same URL, Google will give the page a higher rank in their search results.

For example: if many people add links like Guy Malachi to their web sites [blogs] then when searching Google for Guy Malachi it'll be one of the first results (it should already be the first result :-)).

What this means is that the blog community has the power to raise Google rankings for specific phrases.

Power to the bloggers!

Chapura PocketMirror

I just finished setting up my Palm Pilot so it will sync its calendar to Outlook instead of Palm Desktop.

The process wasn't as simple as it should have been:

I had to install Chapura PocketMirror twice and reinstall Palm Desktop again (at least I got to upgrade Palm Desktop in the process).

Then I had to manually delete several duplicate contact entries from both my Outlook and Palm Desktop.

But now it seems that everything works the way I want it to: I sync everything up to Palm Desktop except for the calendar, which syncs to Outlook.

I would sync everything to Outlook but it seems that for things like managing my contacts and notes the Palm Desktop does a much better job.

DVD with DivX

DVD with DivX

There's a new DVD player that can play DivX files!

I've been anticipating something like this for a while now, though I thought it would take longer (because of patents and piracy reasons).

I bet we'll start seeing things like this from the major players (Sony, Pioneer...) pretty soon...

Margi Presenter-to-Go

This is a cool little gadget I stumbled on:

Margi Presenter-to-Go from www.margi.com.

It lets you hook your PDA (Palm OS or Pocket PC) up to a projector (or any other VGA video input) and display full size Power Point presentations (no need to lag around a laptop anymore).

It even comes with a remote!

Oh yea, it costs $199.

Pilot Zire

There's a new inexpensive Palm Pilot: the Zire (just $99).

It has 2MB memory, a monochrome LCD, rechargeable lithium battery, comes with a mini USB HotSync cable, and a protective flip cover.

Nice price!

New UpSave.com Feature: "Remember Me".

I finished adding a new feature to UpSave.com: "Remember Me".

"Remember Me" lets you automatically login to your UpSave account without the hassle of entering your user name and password.

You can read more about it at the UpSave News Page.

I decided to work on this feature after Ainat, my sister, told me that it was easier for her to just use the browser's built in bookmarks because she doesn't have to enter a password to access them.

I hope this will make using UpSave easier....

IECookiesView v1.20

I just discovered a program for managing your IE cookies:

IECookiesView v1.20.

It's a very small download (64K) that lets you view, search, delete (and probably more...) your IE cookies.

Much better than trying to poke around your "Temporary Internet Files".

New CDs

I bought a bunch of CDs during our weekend at Eilat (this is the first time in my life that I bought more than two CDs at once):

Red Hot Chili Peppers: By the Way

Blackest: A Tribute to Metallica

Ozzy Osbourne - Just Say Ozzy

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

Apocalyptica - Inquisition Symphony

Back from Eilat

We're back from a weekend of eating at Dan-Hotel Eilat.

All we did, more or less, was eat, eat, eat!

Check out this virtual reality video game:

or

You can walk around the street and play Quake, while the monster images are superimposed over your view of the real world!

server-based software: The Other Road Ahead

I just read the excellent article by Paul Graham (founder/former president of Viaweb) about server-based software: The Other Road Ahead.

I think I'll explore his site a bit more...

The guymal.com Gear Online Store

The guymal.com Gear online store is open!

Just like UpSave Gear all product prices are the minimum possible (I don't make anything off it).

What do you say about the snazzy graphics?

Serif PhotoPlus 8

For the past few days I've been using Serif PhotoPlus 8 in order to create the graphics for the UpSave Gear site.

(I bought Serif PhotoPlus 8 about a month ago)

It's a really great product (especially for the $9.95 I paid for it :-)).

I've toyed around quite a bit with Adobe Photoshop and PhotoPlus 8 is a great alternative (at a fraction of the cost).

If you need a powerful graphics program but can't spend thousands of dollars on Adobe Photoshop (or you just rather spend your money on candy) then give Serif PhotoPlus 8 a run.

WWW FTP Client

Sorry to all the non-geeks out there that have no idea what I'm babbling about:

Lately I've been having ftp problems so I can't update guymal.com (good thing that I can do some of the work using blogger.com).

I was getting pretty fed up with not having ftp access to my site so I hopped over to http://cgi-resources.com/ and downloaded WWW FTP Client (the first Perl script on the list).

Within minutes I uploaded WWW FTP Client to a different, external, server (that has its own web interface, not via ftp) and turned that server into my very own http to ftp convertor.

All my requests go out, via http to my external server and it opens ftp connections to the guymal.com web server.

Pretty neat!

Even their installer was great.

The only problem I have with it is that downloading files is only available on their pro version (the regular version is free).

UpSave Online Store

I opened an UpSave Online Store that sells various UpSave merchandise.

CafePress offers a free service to open an online store that sells merchandise that you design (although the products are a bit pricey).

I actually had the entire store designed and running in about 30 minutes!

Showoff that you're an UpSave user (and help promote UpSave) by picking up some UpSave Gear.

Check it out:

http://cafepress.com/upsave

I'll have a guymal.com store soon (I just need to set up some graphics...)

Collateral Damage

Collateral Damage is another hero movie.
The first half of the movie is pretty boring, just the usual action movie setup: a firefighter loses his wife and kid sets out to get revenge.
The second part was a bit more interesting, but still a pretty typical Arnie movie.
Don't go to the theater for this one (it seems that just about all of the movies I've seen lately aren't worth leaving the house for).

guymal.com Main Page Update

I updated the main page for guymal.com.

What I mainly did was remove some old links and rearrange the remaining links.

Oh yea, I also added the webcam/mobile cam thumbnails and the search box to the main page.

Tell me what you think about it.

Mr. Deeds

Last night we saw Mr. Deeds .
It was a pretty fun movie to watch once, but nothing more than that.
If you happen to catch it on TV then give it a try, other than that don't bother.
