Sony Clie NX70v

I just got a new PDA!
It's a Sony Clie PEG-NX70V and this is one cool gadget.

It has a built in keyboard, high resolution TFT color display (320 x 480 pixels), Palm OS 5.0, 16MB RAM, and a built in digital camera.
I also got a 128 MB Sony memory stick so I can save files and listen to mp3s.

This is an amazing device.

It is my third PDA (all Palm OS) and a real improvment from the last one (a m100 that has only 2MB memory).

And guess what Keren has....
a Pilot m100! (I wonder where she got it...)

Ki-Washer

Ki-Washer is a small program that erases all the traces that you leave behind while surfing the Internet and using your PC.
It erases things like cookies, temporary Internet files, document history, Windows temp files, ...
This not only improves security but it also speeds up your entire system.

The coolest thing about Ki-Washer is that you can create an exclude list for any cookies you would like to keep (for all the sites where you enjoy the benefits of cookies).

The download is very small (146KB) but just too bad that it requires an installer (I love programs that you just extract and run).

Oh, and of course it's freeware.

Slimbrowser

I just discovered Slimbrowser which is a IE based browser that adds some cool tools that are missing from IE (some of them already exist in Mozilla).

I usually don't like these things that mess with your browser but since Slimbrowser was a small download (less than 700KB) I decided to give it a run.

First of all the interface is a nice new refreshment (after years of browsing with IE) and I also liked the fact that it doesn't mess with Internet Explorer (you can easily run them both at the same time).

But the features are what makes it really cool:
  • Tabbed page browsing: you can open several sites at the same time, within the same browser window
  • Popup blocker: this isn't as good as Mozilla's pop-up blocker (it still takes time for a page with a popup to open, unlike Mozilla), but it still does the job and is easily configurable.
  • Autologin to web sites: I doubt I'll ever use this, due to security reasons, but it's still a cool idea
  • Quick search: built in ability to search Google, Google groups, Yahoo....
  • Site groups: you can configure groups of sites that you want to load together
  • Shortcuts to various system resources like the control panel, desktop, cookies, Internet cache...
  • Internet trace cleaning: you can easily clean up your Internet tracks
  • URL aliases: this one could be pretty useful
  • Site filter
  • and more....
Pretty impressive list of features for such a small download.

One thing I did notice that is missing is the "Links" toolbar.

I'll try to give it a good run for its money in the next few days...
Oh yea, speaking of money, it's freeware!
You can't beat that :-)!

The A.E.G. washing machine arrived

The A.E.G. washing machine arrived yesterday (FINALLY).

This was after THREE times that we waited at home for them to deliver it!
All three times we sat several hours at home and they just didn't come.

Excuse me if I go off on a rant here:

It's the damn supplier: Y. Shalom (let's try a bit of Hebrew: ι.ωμεν)

Do not buy products from Y. Shalom (ι.ωμεν).
They have the worst service I've ever encountered.

We initially bought the washing machine from iii.co.il (an online auction site) about a month and a half ago(!?!?!).
iii.co.il didn't help us either, at all.
All they kept saying was: "we'll look into it...."

After many calls to the INSERT_CURSE_WORD_HERE people at Y. Shalom they would set up delivery times, something like "stay at home tomorrow between 12-16" (like we don't have a job), we would wait at home and they wouldn't arrive (they wouldn't even call us).

This happened not once, not twice, but THREE bleeping times!

By the way, they were supposed to deliver the washing machine within 21 days. It took them 39 days!

I just hope somebody finds this post on Google, or something, and decides to stay away from Y Shalom after reading this.

Save yourself the trouble: do not do any business with Y. Shalom.

What a day!

We had a busy day today:
  • Keren sold her car (1996 white Mazda Lantis F).
We didn't even have a chance to take a picture of it.

  • The washing machine didn't arrive yet (we ordered it on the 11th of December, over a month ago).
It's the second time that Keren stays home, waiting for them to deliver the machine, and they don't arrive!
They promised they would bring it by the end of the week, again.

  • And finally, the sofas arrived, a week and a day after we ordered them.
The rest of our order should arrive in a few days.
Whew....

What the?!?

What the hell is this??
A GameBoy controlled sewing machine????

The idea is pretty cool (to have the sewing machine controlled by a computer) but a GameBoy?
Who exactly is their target audience?

New Source Code

I added some new code to the source code section:
It's some JavaScript code for creating an iframe that has a height of 100%.
Normally, if you try to write something like:<iframe width=100% height=100%></iframe> then your iframe will have a width of 100% but it will get a default height of about 200px.
The code I wrote will let you create an iframe that takes up 100% of the available space on the page.

Netswitcher

Since my connection to the Internet at home and at work needs different settings (home uses DHCP and at work I have a static legal IP), I looked for some way to easily change the network settings between my home and work configurations.

I discovered Netswitcher which does exactly that: it saves your computer's network settings (TCP/IP settings, browser settings...) into profiles that you can easily switch between. So now I have one profile for my work settings and one for home.
Very simple!

Oh yea, here's a tip I discovered: when changing your TCP/IP settings to use DHCP, Windows 2000 will want to reboot, unless you insert your network cable beforehand.
Odd but it works!
