Great Time For Heart Attack

Dorothy Fletcher, 67, was flying to her daughter's wedding in Florida when she collapsed with chest pains.

A stewardess asked "Is there a doctor on board?" and 15 heart specialists stood up to offer help!
The doctors were en route to a cardiology conference in Orlando.

Talk about lucky (or maybe not?).

Wendy's Game

The Wendy's Change Game is basically a method that this dude (who eats regularly at Wendy's) came up with in order to drive the Wendy's employees crazy.

The game is based on the following Wendy's policy:
You know how they always have your change ready when you pull up to the window? Its some kind of company policy. Lets say your total is $4.38. That means your change is 62 cents, if you give them a 5 dollar bill, which is what they anticipate. By the time you hit the window, they have two quarters, a dime, and two pennies in their hand. You give them a 5, and they hand you the change.

What this guy does is try to surprise the Wendy's employees and make them have to calculate the change that they have prepared again.

For example, if the total is $4.38 then he'll give them $5.38 so they'll have to return all the change that they've prepared for him (two quarters, a dime, and two pennies) and give him a dollar bill.

The real fun starts when the employees start catching on and try to anticipate what amount he'll give them (so they may have a dollar bill, for example, also prepared).

He describes some of the tricks that he uses in order to try to trick them and "win" the game.

Google Zeitgeist

Google Zeitgeist (go figure how to pronounce that) shows what patterns and trends people are searching Google for.

You can see things like the most popular query, most popular retail store, most popular film, and other trends on Google.

There are also yearly summaries (including an archive) that show you different trends according to seasons (for example gift searches naturally increase during the holiday seasons).

There's some very interesting information there.

Aircraft carrier anyone?

Anybody in the neighborhood for an aircraft carrier?

Then you're in luck cuz there's an aircraft carrier for sale on eBay!

They want $6,000,000 for it and here's why they say you should buy it:

Suggested usage: tourist attraction, ocean-restaurant, museum, amusement park, hotel-on-the-ocean, etc. If you anchor it in the harbor and use it as a tourist attraction during the day, and use it as an ocean-hotel during the night, it will be great ! (it has rooms to accommodate for 1,300 men), and you charge both admission fee and hotel rate. (say you rent the rooms for only $50 dollars. Per person, times 1,300 and only times 300 days a year, then it is $ 15 million dollars already ! In 20 years, that is an amazing $ 300 million dollars. Calculate for yourself. If you want to sell the vessel for demolition in about 20 years, the current price for steel on the demolition market is about 130 US dollars per ton. This vessel weighs about 16,000 tons. So you earn another 2 million dollars ! You do not even bother to count the income from admission fee from tourists or rent to restaurant or amusement park owners. You get the TOTAL investment all covered in the first year. But that is not all, the navigation instruments and satellite guidance system and other great instruments cost hundreds of millions of dollars when they were new. You can easily get a lot of money from selling the instruments. Now for a tiny fraction of the original price (which maybe over $ 5 billion US dollars) you can have this wonderful property all for yourself.

BTW: yesterday when I ran across this sale there were no bidders and today somebody placed a bid for the $6,000,000.

Pigeon Post

Nick Andreef's company uses homing pigeons to deliver digital photographs!

The company runs tours through a network of caves spread across a 20km radius. Many people like to buy pictures that are taken during the trip but do not have time to wait for photos to be downloaded and printed.

So they came up with the pigeon concept: caving guides take the memory stick from their cameras and attached it to a velcro pack on the pigeon.

It takes the pigeons about six minutes to return to the main office with the memory sticks.

"They can transfer three gigs over 20km faster than the Internet."

Mr Andreef also said that the pigeons are 99% reliable and "work for peanuts."

This site has a map of the US that helps you visually locate zipcodes.

What it does is light up the parts of the map that are relevant to a zipcode, while you are typing it.

As you enter more digits to the zip code the lighted area on the map decreases to light just the area for the current digits you have typed.

Very neat (and useful).

Silent Ringtone

You know how cellphone ring tones are becoming more and more popular?

Well, get this: for $2 you can actually download a silent ringtone for your cell phone.

The (good) idea behind this is that you assign the silent ringtone for people who you don't want calling you.
That way when they call you your phone won't ring out loud.

Good idea but I don't think you should need to pay for it, it should be a built in feature in your cellphone.

This gave the dude an idea and he quickly used his cellphone to call a friend who has a computer connected to the net.
While the cop was writing him up his friend registered his car online!

When the officer returned with his ticket he told him that the car was now registered and the officer immediately confirmed it on his onboard computer.

There's an excellent article in Globes about how some Israeli start-up companies are operating without raising money from VCs.

These entrepreneurs are trying to cut costs wherever possible and work efficiently in order to build the company without going to venture capital.

One of the methods that they use to cut costs is use open source software (instead of "paying a $5,000 a month license fee to Oracle") and by utilizing people online instead of going to professional design and translation firms.
