TestMyNet lets you test your broadband Internet connection to see if you are getting what your ISP claims you are supposed to get (and what you are paying for).
It lets you test both your upload speed and download speed.

Most of the spam that I receive is from spambots that got my email address off some website (including my sites).
In order to decrease the amount of spam that I get (while not removing my email address from my sites) I created the JavaScript encrypt mailto code.
What you do is fill out the form, copy the JavaScript code that is generated for you, and paste it in your HTML page (wherever you want the mailto link to appear).
When you view the page in your browser you see a regular mailto link but if you view the source of the page (which is what the spambots "see") you see some weird JavaScript code (that does not even resemble a mailto link.
Hopefully this will reduce the amount of spam that I get...

This sure beats riding around on a tricycle.

Here's a trick for the math genius inside you.
Using this easy method you can amaze your friends and instantly extract the cube root of a number.
Once you master this trick just ask somebody to cube a two-digit number on a calculator and give you the result and you'll be able to instantly tell them the original number.

Just like some software programs have different skins that you can apply in order to make the program look different, this company makes skins for everyday things.
They have skins for computer stuff (like your computer case, computer parts, and mouse pads) and for other items (non computer related) like skins for your refrigerator and other household appliances.
I'm surprised that they don't have a skin for your dog ;o).

Some people might say that Cola is addictive and this may just prove that.
For about 30 years Ghana has earned a reputation for the world's most colorful and imaginative coffins. So I guess that the Cola coffin is not that unusual there (it's just something in our twisted western minds that finds it odd).

I've never seen such vivid color photos from the 70s let alone from the 40s.
These photos are of Chicago in the 40s and offer a new perspective (for me at least) on that era.

www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.com/ is an actual domain name!
It is the longest single word (without hyphens) .com domain name in the world and was registered on October 21st, 1999.
This Welsh town actually exists and its name translates as "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave".

BugMeNot is a site for bypassing compulsory web registrations.
What it does is give you user names for different sites that require that you register before you can use them.
For example if you want to read an article in the New York Times web site you need to sign up first.
Instead you can use one of the several www.nytimes.com login names from BugMeNot and save yourself the hassle of signing up at nytimes.com.
You can also add logins to BugMeNot in order to let other people use them.
This service is pretty good especially since many sites require that you sign up even though it does not benefit the user in any way.

This site is dedicated to American package designs from the beginning of the 20th century.
It has photos of packages of many common products like Wrigley's gum, Crayola Crayons, Lipton Tea, Jell-O, Heinz Ketchup (don't worry the bottle is empty :o), and box of Band-Aids.
It's cool to see how some packages have totally changed over the years while some remain pretty much the same.

Whew, this has been a busy font week.
And get ready for the best font post:
Fontifier.com lets you create a font out of your own handwriting.
Finally there's a site that enables you to create your own font, pretty easily, and for free!
What you do is print out their template, fill it out by writing all the letters of the alphabet individually, scan your handwriting, send the scan back to fontifier, and get your font.
Now you can create really "personal" letters without having to pick up a pen.
BTW: if you want you can download the Guy Malachi font that I created with fontifier.

If we're already on the topic of fonts, then here is a collection of handwriting fonts.
These could come in useful for forging doctor's notes (although they are a bit too legible for a doctor's handwriting).
Stay tuned for some more fonts...

And today in the font department we have some famous fonts.
There are fonts from TV shows, movies, music, food and drink (like Coca Cola for example), companies...
It's pretty amazing to see how distinguishable some fonts are (without ever really realizing it).

I guess it was just a matter of time before people started doing extreme things with a Segway.
This site has several pictures of people using Segways for skateboard/motocross like stunts.
It's probably also just a matter of time before someone is killed on a Segway.

There's a new addition to guymal.com:
You can now add the random quote (that you see on the right hand side of Guy's World) to your own web pages.
It's very easy to do (basically all you need to do is add one line to your page) and you can customize the random quote in order to make it fit in with the style of your site (using standard CSS).
Check out the instructions on how to add and customize the random quote.

Geek Alert!
Flonix is a complete Operating System for the PC.
It's similar to Knoppix where you have an entire operating system burned on a CD that you can boot from (so you don't need to install anything on the PC).
(It's actually based on Knoppix)
The cool thing about Flonix is that aside from the CD version there's also a version that you can put on a 64MB USB disk on key (you know, those USB storage devices).
They even say that with a 64MB USB storage you'll have some free space for storing your files.
And since it does not change anything on the computer's hard disk it's not dangerous for any other operating systems present on the hard drive of the computer (Windows for example).
So you can feel free to try it out on any PC without risking loosing your current configuration.
Oh yea, in the spirit of Open Source software, it won't cost you anything.

In order to reduce the number of deaths from car accidents in Britain they have started installing new light posts that bend on impact.
The standard metal lampposts are fatal when hit by a car but the new flexible ones will bend underneath the car, causing less damage.
They are creating two versions: one for the countryside, where there probably aren't many pedestrians nearby so the lightpost falls and breaks away totally.
The version designed for the city is hinged and buckles, so it does not break and fall on nearby pedestrians.

This is for real: you can actually buy the world's largest book at Amazon.
It's dimensions are: 152 x 112 x 15 cm (60 x 44 x 6 inches).
The book is about the Asian country of Bhutan, uses enough paper to cover a football field, and is sold for $100,000 (per copy).

News flash!
M&M's are about to go black and white for the first time in 60 years, but it remains to be seen whether their fans love or hate the change.
M&M's will be available in only black and white for the next few months instead of the standard six colors as part of a promotional campaign.
M&M's are sold in more than 100 countries, but the black and white ones will be available only in the United States (and only for a few months).
