Do you have the need to control somebody?
If so then you're in luck: introducing the Subservient Chicken.
Just type in whatever you want the chicken to do and miraculously the chicken will do it!
No, don't think that there's any sophisticated artificial intelligence involved, there's just a long list of commands that the chicken "understands".
You can even see a list of all the commands that are supported (including links to their different videos).

For those who don't know, Worth1000.com is a site that display people's images that have been manipulated using PhotoShop.
Usually the pictures there are displayed according to themes.
The theme that I just ran into is the celebrity statues theme.
People have submitted different PhotoShopped images that turn celebrity pictures into statues of the celebs.
There are some very good results there (and a few crappy ones)

TeleTone is small application for PalmOS devices (that have enhanced sound, like the Sony Clie models and the Tungsten-T).
What TeleTone does is let you dial numbers from you Palm phonebook by playing the phone number's touch tones on the Palm's speaker.
So all you have to do in order to dial a phone number from your Palm is select the number, click on the TeleTone application, and put your phone's microphone near your Palm's speaker.
All this through the amazing, new technology of touch tone dialing.
I'm surprised that this type of application doesn't come built in in every handheld PDA.
Anyway, it's free and can come in quite helpful (it saves you from needing to manually dial the numbers from your Palm into your phone).

Swinburne University of Technology's center for micro-photonics have constructed a model of the Sydney Opera House that is about half the diameter of a human hair!
Check out that link, it has a photo of the model (taken with an electron microscope).
To the human eye the model appears as an almost imperceptible dot and it's more than a million times smaller than the real Sydney structure.
It's absolutely amazing the humans can construct something so small with such detail.
Who said size doesn't matter?

Are you looking for a new apartment?
If so you're in luck, cuz some dude is selling his Star Trek apartment on eBay.
This thing is stock full of LCARS, Ops units, voice activated lighting, back-lit panelling, various lighting effects, Transporter Pads, and a full scale Transporter Control Console with built in sound effects (whatever all those mean).
Check out the pictures of the place over on eBay and this site has some more pictures of it.
Talk about being a devoted fan!

Now that Apple has announced the new iPod design (ok it isn't really that new just a bit different), here's an article about different future iPod designs that were created by iPod fans.
Check out this site to see some pictures of the various iPod designs that the fans created (and are filled with new features that the fans want to see).
There are quite a few designs there ranging from video iPods (that Steve Jobs commented about by saying: "We don't see a market for people that want to watch video on these portable devices "), round iPods, sphere iPods, PDA iPods, an iPod shaped like the Apple logo, a watch iPod...(there are 250 designs there).
The design's quality is generally very good.

Check out this rotating earth watch.
It's a wrist watch with a small rotating Earth that makes a full rotation once every 24 hours.
There is a small time zone indicator for the hour, it's 100m water resistant, and comes with a 10 year Lithium battery.
Oh yea, it can be yours for just $500!

guymal.com is not a news site but here's a bit of news that I just couldn't skip: there's another Police Academy movie in the works!
The next Police Academy movie (number 8 in the series) will come out at least 10 years after the previous movie, "Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow", that came out in 1994.
The first Police Academy movie came out 20(!) years ago, in 1984.
Really makes you feel old, doesn't it?
According to IMDB, this movie should come out in 2006 and many of the original actors are going to be in it (G.W. Bailey, Leslie Easterbrook, George Gaynes, Steve Guttenberg, Lance Kinsey, Matt McCoy, Marion Ramsey, Bubba Smith, Michael Winslow).

There are even pictures of a homemade disk box that they made out of Legos!
Quite amazing that the Google monster used to fit all on one desk.

Here are 2000 uses for WD40.
Count 'em, 2000!
Naturally most of the uses are for cleaning and lubricating but there are some interesting ones there like "Use full cans for bookends", "Shines outdoor sculptures", and "Removes powder residue and metal fouling from gun barrels".
If you ever have any spare cans of WD40 (or find a great WD40 sale) then I'm sure this site will help find out what you can do with the amazing spray.

You know how those cellphone companies are always adding new features to cell phones to make them more attractive (like cameras, radios, video games...)?
Here's one new feature that may interest some of you out there: a cellphone with a built in vanity mirror!
This phone is made by Motorola and is targeted for the youth market.
The phone also draws youth appeal with pre-loaded and downloadable Java(TM)-enabled games; polyphonic and voice ring tones; voice activated dialing, wireless Web access and text messaging.
We already saw the killer cellphone for the killer in you, now we have the mirror phone for cleaning up after the killing.

Check out these winners of the 2004 Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA).
There are some very cool designs there where the clear winner is Apple.
Just by browsing over the different winners you can see that Apple is clearly the company with the most awards and they also seem to inspire many other designs (there are quite a few iMac inspired winners there).

It's been a while since I posted a game here so here's one: Spamwars.
In this small online flash game you need to shoot down the spam and viruses that the spammer is sending you, before they can reach you.
It sort of reminds me of the classic 80's video game Bartender (but that just may be my twisted mind ;-).
BTW: I made it to level 26 and got 23,000 points.

GTA San Andreas interview
|
|
|
 |
 |
|
|
 |
 |

For all you GTA fans: there's a great interview with Rockstar creative VP Dan Houser about the improvements of the upcoming new version of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The game is only coming out in October 2004 but has already been called the "biggest selling video game of its generation"!
Dan Houser talks about the cool improvements that they've come up with in San Andreas which is five times the size of Vice City.
In the new GTA version you'll be able to swim, get out of cars in water, if you have a stupid haircut people will say "You look stupid", the game will be much more personalized, you'll be able to drive in the countryside, characters will be much smarter, better time-of-day action and shadowing....
The only problem that they have is that they've already filled up a full DVD (obviously, with the huge city and all those improvements) so they're going to have a dual layer DVD.
Let's hope that it doesn't come on 10 DVDs that you have to swap every minute (actually that could be kinda cool, a 10 DVD game...)

Here's a fun brainteaser test that you can take in your spare time.
There are 30 multiple choice questions and at the end you can see an analysis of your score.
BTW: you'll need to sign up the first time you try to take one of their tests but they have lots of fun quizzes there (including an IQ test) and they save your scores, so it's worth the (free) signup.
I won't tell you my score on the brainteaser exam ;-)

Well, if you haven't noticed yet: there's a new design for guymal.com :o)
I worked quite a bit on this design, not only to make it look good but also to make it easy for me to add new pages to the site and to apply the new design to old pages.
Currently there are about 5 different old designs spread out over the site (!!) but I hope to slowly migrate all the old designs to the new one (see if you can find the all the different old designs before I get rid of them....).
I'd be really grateful to hear what you have to say about the new design so
what you think about it.

I guess posting about math tricks makes me a real geek but here goes anyway:
Fantastic Math Tricks is a site that teaches you several math tricks that let you easily learn how to multiply up to 20x20 in your head, how to multiply by 9, and do other calculations in your head.
Pretty cool tricks (if you're into that sort of stuff).
Quick, how much is 14 times 17...?
After you learn the trick it's really quite easy: 238!

Clocks Need Love Too is a site dedicated to....guess.....
Clocks!
It has lots of designs of very cool clocks ranging from a white board clock, a clock that spills of the table (ala Dali), and a table that its entire surface is a clock (my favorite design).
The site also has some fun watch designs so browse around a bit.
I'm glad that the site doesn't have that annoying Javascript clock that follows your cursor (like many non related clock sites even have).

Thinkgeek has a cool new gadget (like the many other cool gadgets they have).
This time it's a USB Wireless Security Lock.
The idea is that you attach the USB receiver to your PC and you walk around with the battery-powered transmitter.
Once the transmitter moves more than two meters away from the PC then the PC automatically locks itself until the user with the transmitter returns to the computer.
This is a neat idea since it doesn't require any interaction from the user, just walk away from your computer and it's locked, you don't have to worry about remembering passwords or forgetting to lock your PC.
The one thing that I'm worried about is what happens when the transmitter's battery runs out?
Are you locked out of your computer till you run down to Radio Shack to get some fresh batteries (assuming that it uses standard batteries...).
Oh yea, it's also not too pricey: $50 for the USB receiver and transmitter.

Are you tired of that plain gray PC sitting on your desk?
Then you'll probably be glad to hear about Colorware.
Colorware have several standard products that come in different colors.
They either sell you products in colors that the original manufacturer doesn't offer (for example they sell Apple iPods in many colors like red, yellow, and blue) or they can color a product that you already own.
From what I see on their site they sell colorful desktops, laptops, iPods, Xboxes, PS2s, and Gamecubes, all in tons of colors.
If you already have an iPod or a game console that you want in a cool new color then they'll happily colorize them for you (they currently colorize Apple products and video game consoles).
Maybe I can get them to colorize my white refrigerator...

guymal.com is featured on Amazon!
Even though they have a pretty old version of guymal.com, it's still there.
The reason that Amazon has web sites featured on its site is because of the search business that they're trying to get into (their search engine is called A9.com).
I told you that some day I'd be famous ;o)

If you happen to have a spare PC lying around then try out this cool program that lets you use the second computer as a dual monitor for your main PC.
Just install Maxivista on both computers (and make sure that they are networked together) and both computers automatically find each other where one acts as an extension to your monitor, doubling your desktop.
This is cool application easily doubles your desktop without needing to install any extra hardware on your PC (and the installation and setup are a sinch).
I know this program isn't for everyone, but if you happen to have an extra PC and monitor then this could be pretty useful for you.

Just enter your birthday into this site and you get a list of celebs and the age difference between you.
Did you know that I'm 21 years and 1 month younger than Bill Gates?
Now you know.
The site also tells you how old you were on some historical dates.
For example: I was 7 years old when Apple introduced the Macintosh, 9 years old when the space shuttle Challenger exploded, and 14 years old when Operation Desert Storm began.
This site is a real history lesson!

Just go to this site and you get a randomly generated blog post that actually looks like a real post.
Gotta bookmark this one for those nights when I have a hard time writing something for you.
If you start seeing posts on Guy's World that don't seem that relevant then you can guess where they came from (wink wink, just don't tell anybody)...

This week is the 25th anniversary of the Sony Walkman.
The Walkman came out on July 1, 1979 and this week, 25 years later, Sony has come out with the next generation of portable music players: a Walkman mp3 player (aka the Network Walkman or Sony's answer to the Apple iPod).
If you want to see some of the different Walkman players that came out over the years then also check out the Walkman Museum (and fly right back to the 80s).

For all you gamers out there, here's an article about the upcoming game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
GTA San Andreas is the fifth game in this excellent series of video games (some of the most amazing video games ever created, in my opinion) and is supposed to come out on October 19th 2004.
The article discusses all the information that is currently known about San Andreas such as the story line, characters, what vehicles will be available, about the city, available weapons, and also has some screenshots of the game.
Can't wait till October 19th...

Palm Hellfire: Apache vs. Hind is one of the most stunning games that I've seen for the Palm OS.
Not only are the graphics super cool (who needs a Gameboy with this kind of graphics on a Palm device?) but the gameplay is also great.
Hellfire was created by the same development team who developed GTS Racing Challenge which also had breakthrough graphics for the Palm but wasn't that fun to play. With Hellfire the team not only gave us even better graphics, but also created a game that is really fun to play.
In this game you fly a helicopter each time on different missions. Sometimes you need to rescue prisoners of war, destroy land objects, shoot down other helicopters...
This is one great game both to show off your Palm Pilot's capabilities and to burn up your free time :o)
Totally recommended!

Who knew that Commodore (yea the company that brought us the Commodore 64 in the 80's) is still alive (and sort-of kicking)?
It turns out that in 1993 the company started running into financial problems and in 1994 they closed but were later bought by Tulip Computers.
According to their site they are actually working on coming out with new Commodore 64 products (whatever that means).
One of these initiatives is the C64 mini video game console that is based on the Commodore 64 home PC and will be able to connect directly to a TV.
