TeleTone

TeleTone is small application for PalmOS devices (that have enhanced sound, like the Sony Clie models and the Tungsten-T).

What TeleTone does is let you dial numbers from you Palm phonebook by playing the phone number's touch tones on the Palm's speaker.
So all you have to do in order to dial a phone number from your Palm is select the number, click on the TeleTone application, and put your phone's microphone near your Palm's speaker.
All this through the amazing, new technology of touch tone dialing.

I'm surprised that this type of application doesn't come built in in every handheld PDA.

Anyway, it's free and can come in quite helpful (it saves you from needing to manually dial the numbers from your Palm into your phone).

Palm Hellfire

Palm Hellfire: Apache vs. Hind is one of the most stunning games that I've seen for the Palm OS.
Not only are the graphics super cool (who needs a Gameboy with this kind of graphics on a Palm device?) but the gameplay is also great.

Hellfire was created by the same development team who developed GTS Racing Challenge which also had breakthrough graphics for the Palm but wasn't that fun to play. With Hellfire the team not only gave us even better graphics, but also created a game that is really fun to play.
In this game you fly a helicopter each time on different missions. Sometimes you need to rescue prisoners of war, destroy land objects, shoot down other helicopters...

This is one great game both to show off your Palm Pilot's capabilities and to burn up your free time :o)

Totally recommended!

SplashShopper

SplashShopper is another excellent Palm Pilot app from SplashData (the people who brought us SplashID, the great password manager).

SplashShopper is a shopping list manager for your Palm Pilot.

You can manage different kinds of lists and automatically synchronize them between your desktop and your handheld.
So when you notice that you're out of peanut butter you can quickly add it to your shopping list on your PC and have it available on your handheld when you're in the store.

The program comes preloaded with a database of many items that you can choose from when you are creating your list (so if you need to buy milk you don't have to manually add a milk entry to the database, there already are tons of items).
You can, of course add your own items.

One of SplashShopper's best features is that you can add prices per store for every item.
So next time you are at the store you can see how much you paid for orange juice at a different store.

I've been using SplashShopper for a couple months and haven't found it missing any features, it's just about perfect.

More Palm Games

Handmark has some great Palm OS games.

I tried Monopoly for Palm OS and Battleship and both are great.

I did encounter a problem with the sounds in Battleship, it works with disgusting system sounds instead of the Clie sounds database that comes with it (I installed the game and the sounds on the Memory Stick so that may be the problem).

Other than that, both are a great way to pass time when you are waiting for the train.

New Sony Clie

Sony Japan has uncovered a new CLIE: the PEG-UX50!

The UX50 is the first PDA to have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

It runs Palm OS 5.2, has an amazing 480x320 screen, and since the swivel screen is horizontal then there is more room for the keyboard.

Like some other Clie's (like my excellent NX-70V), the UX50 also has an integrated 0.3 megapixel digital camera, MP3 playback, and video playback software.

Enough words, here's a picture of it:

Games For Clie

Astraware Games for Sony CLIE have several great games for Palm OS.

They even have a Palm version for one of my favorite (addictive) on-line games: Collapse.
(here is the online Collapse version)

Billiards

Billiards 4.12 is the best game I've seen for the Palm Pilot.
It has excellent graphics and sounds, and is just really fun to play.
It supports Hi Res+ (320x480) so it really makes good use of the Sony Clie NX70v.

You can play either against the computer, two players on the same device, or two players using IR.

Don't forget to turn up the sound when you play this one, the sound FX are really great.

Kickoo Palm Games

Kickoo has two (for now at least) outstanding games for Palm OS.
Both games support HiRes+ so they look amazing on my Sony Clie.

Breakout is a great version of the classic breakout (Arkanoid) game and TakTik is a tactical game.
The graphics in the games (and on the website) are absolutely stunning.

Highly recommended.

ZLauncher

ZLauncher is an amazing launcher for Palm Pilot.

I installed it yesterday on my Sony Clie NX-70V and it works like a charm (it has support for Sony High-Resolution(320 X 320) and High-Resolution+ (320 X 480)).

This thing has lots of features (you can see a list of them on their web site) like tabs, quick launch, background images, themes, expansion card browsing....but basically it makes your Palm Pilot look cool :-)

I was using the Sony Clie default launcher up till now which looks a lot cooler than the standard Palm launcher (you can switch between them on the Clie) but it has some usability problems (it can be pretty difficult to find the app you are looking for) so I switched to ZLauncher.

Its basic layout is similar to the classic Palm launcher but it adds much more.

You can also download themes for ZLauncher.
ClieSource has some excellent themes and background images.

My favorite theme is Remixed Theme by Gavin Jones which was created using the best elements of some different themes (I can't seem to find the link to download it (even though I downloaded it several hours ago)).

SplashID for Palm

I've been using CryptInfo for several years in order to keep track of all my web logins and passwords (I have over 200!).
The main problem that I had with it is that I couldn't access my information from my desktop PC (since I'm using a very old version of CryptInfo (2.4.1 from 1999), the newer versions also have a desktop application that syncs with the handheld).
I'd heard that a lot of people use SplashID for saving their login information on their Palm Pilot (and syncing it with a desktop computer).

I installed SplashID yesterday (without a hitch) and played around with it quite a bit.
It's pretty cool and straight-forward.

You can access all your information on either the PDA or the desktop and the information is synced and backed up.

Now the only problem that I have is getting all my information out of CryptInfo and into SplashID (the old version of CryptInfo doesn't have an export function).

So far I've manually converted the letters A-F...
