Final Destination 2

Another movie we saw this weekend was Final Destination 2.

This movie is exactly like the first one.
A bunch of people who are supposed to die don't and "death" is out to get them.

None the less, it was pretty fun to watch.

The coolest thing about this movie is the different ways that the characters die.
I don't want to give it away so I won't tell you what my favorites were (nor do I want you to lose your lunch :o).

Malibu's Most Wanted

This weekend we saw Malibu's Most Wanted.

This is a pretty weird movie (ok the main character is weird).

It's about a white boy from Malibu who thinks he is black (fo sure).
His dad, who is running for governor gets him kidnapped in order to scare him white.

The best thing about this movie is the performance of the main character.
He does an excellent black, hip-hop, rapper, dude.

All the black vs. white scenes really make this movie funny.

Represent, D-Shiznit...

The Italian Job

Yesterday we saw The Italian Job.

I didn't really want to see this movie at first (I don't really know why I didn't want to see it) but it turned out to be pretty good.
Mark Wahlberg usually plays in crappy movies so I guess I wasn't expecting much from this flick.

The movie actually turned out to be action packed and pretty interesting.

I especially liked "breaking in" action sequences.

Intolerable Cruelty

We just saw Intolerable Cruelty at the movie theater.

This is one excellent movie.

A while ago we tried seeing "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and really didn't like it (we were only able to get through about 40 minutes before we couldn't take it any more).

So when we went to see Intolerable Cruelty we were ready to be disappointed.

Boy were we wrong!

This movie is outstanding!

There are many great subtle jokes throughout the movie in addition to many hilarious scenes (and some outrageous characters).

You should really go see this one.

Sweet Home Alabama

Another movie that we saw today is Sweet Home Alabama.

You can really feel free to pass up on this one.

Boring!

This is a total chick flick but I don't even think that chicks would enjoy it that much.

About A Boy

Today we finished watching About A Boy.

I usually don't like Hugh Grant and I really don't like British movies, but this one was ok.

The boy, Marcus, and his mother, Fiona, really make this movie watchable (and really make you feel sorry for the poor boy).

Give it a try if you have nothing better to do (or you have to choose between this one and Four Weddings and a Funeral).

Terminator 3

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines doesn't even come close to Terminator 2.

While watching this movie all you can think of is "what's the point?".

The story is boring and the entire movie is more or less a series of action shots (how many explosions can you in one damn movie?).

There's one scene in the movie where this crane is driving down the street and wrecks everything in its path (cars, buildings...).
The complexity of the scene is quite impressive but even that scene is still pretty boring (you just feel like you get the point after the first 10 explosions, and the rest just don't do it any more).

I also heard that Matrix Revolutions is also very bad.
What's going on with these action movie sequels?

The Life of David Gale

I put off seeing The Life of David Gale for a long time (since its name sounds boring), but boy was I wrong.

This is an excellent movie.

This is one of those movies that has you riveted to the screen (and leaves you quite amazed at the end).

The story is excellent and would be even more amazing if this had been based on a true story (it isn't).

Confidence

Confidence is a great movie.

It's one of those movies where you don't really understand what is going (or you think that you understand something but then understand something else) and only in the end you get it.

I like these kinds of movies only if you really do get everything by the end of the movie (and they don't leave any loose ends).

This movie delivered the goods.

View from the Top

View from the Top is a pretty odd movie.

Off the top (no pun intended :-) it looks like a standard comedy but there is a weird quality about it (I can't really put my finger on it).

Maybe it was Mike Myers odd (but great) role.

A Guy Thing

A Guy Thing is pretty much another girl movie.

The plot is pretty predictable and there aren't many surprises (just by reading the tag line you probably can guess the entire plot).

If you must see a chick flick then this one could be ok but otherwise skip it.

The Recruit

The Recruit could have been an excellent movie but they made it too complicated and didn't bother to explain everything at the end.

I'm all for making the plot interesting by keeping everything mysterious to the degree that you aren't sure who's who and what's going on, but only if by the end everything is clear and you understand exactly what happened.

This movie was very complicated (in a good way) but when it was over you weren't sure exactly what happened.

I need closure damn it!

Bruce Almighty

Get this DVD at AmazonToday I saw Bruce Almighty.

The movie is pretty much what you expect (if you've seen the trailer then you know exactly what the movie's about).
But surprisingly it's still pretty good.
Unlike The Truman Show, which was a 2 hour version of its trailer, Bruce Almighty is fun to see.

Just don't expect any surprises.

Back To The Future 3

Get this DVD at Amazon Yesterday I finally finished watching the Back To The Future Trilogy (I saw Back To The Future 3).

This is my least favorite of the three movies but it's still a great movie and I give it five stars.

The bonus material on the third DVD was a real disappointment.
The deleted scenes had only one 10 second deleted scene and the other bonus features were more or less the theatrical trailers.

The entire trilogy is still outstanding!

Finding Nemo

We just finished watching Finding Nemo (and now I understand why kids in the US started flushing their pet fish down the toilet after watching this movie!).

We both love the modern computer generated animation movies and this wasn't an exception.
It's a great movie with a LOT of action.
There is so much going on in this movie that there really isn't a dull moment throughout the entire film.

But for some odd reason we both liked it less than other similar movies like Shrek and Monsters Inc.

BTW: I also played a bit of Finding Nemo on the PS2 and it's also a pretty cool game, but I'll elaborate more on that on a different occasion....

Bad Company

A great movie that we saw this weekend was Bad Company with Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins.

It's an action/comedy flick with a pretty standard plot (Chris Rock, a ticket scalper from New Jersey, is called to save the world after his twin brother, a CIA agent, is killed during an undercover mission).

The film is a lot of fun to watch with plenty of action and lots of funny scenes with Chris Rock as the street smart Jersey scalper who suddenly needs to work in the CIA.

Definitely one to check out.
